PROJECTS FUNDED BY THE COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM

American River Parkway Foundation "The Great American River Cleanup"- A project which will recruit and coordinate approximately 2000 members of the community to remove trash and garbage from many areas of the American River Parkway following the months of heavy summer usage.
Dry Creek Conservancy "Willy Coyote Walks"- A project which will provide children and adults with enjoyable and educational guided walks and naturalist activities along the Dry Creek Watershed in Roseville during the salmon and steelhead spawning seasons.
Water Education Foundation Water Conservation Brochure - A project which will focus on the distribution of free educational brochures to American River Salmon Festival participants that will increase the awareness and understanding of the protection of salmon, preventing pollution, and the threat of non-native species.
Fly Fishers Unlimited and Granite Bay Flycasters "Salmon in the Classroom"- A program which brings salmon and steelhead eggs into the classroom and allows students to view development into the fry stage while following an environmental education curriculum about King Salmon and Steelhead Trout.
Protect American River Canyon and Chana High School Salmon Life Cycle Art Display - Developed a Raku (a unique style of Japanese ceramic firing) Salmon workshop for 25 students and displayed the clay art work depicting the salmon life-cycle at the 2000 American River Salmon Festival.

American River Watershed Group and Placer High School

River Assessment and Photography Display - Two classes from Placer High School took a day long field trip to the Crocker Art Museum and the American River. Many photographs were taken at the two sites visited along the American River. From these photographs, selected images were displayed at the Placer High School Art Gallery and the 2000 American River Salmon Festival.
